Getting ready for summer with 12 healthy groceries from Walmart. Plus a couple of fun items which will come in handy all year long.
I have to admit, I’m not a huge fan of grocery shopping at Walmart. They don’t seem to have as many choices when it comes to healthier, quality products. But I still like to drop in a few times a year to check out what they’ve got going on! When you ignore all the junk and search the aisles for healthier items, you can find some gems, and at a great price too!
On a recent trip to Walmart I found a few groceries that are perfect for summer! I also picked up a few standards that are always great buys at Walmart. As I browsed the “other half” of the store, I came across a couple of bonus items that I didn’t really need, but definitely wanted! (Which is always the case when I go into a huge store like Walmart or Target!)
Keep an eye out for these 14 items the next time you visit Walmart. You may find them at many other grocery stores too. Availability and prices may vary.
Healthy Summer Groceries
1. Yasso Frozen Greek Yogurt Bars
If you haven’t tried a Frozen Yasso bar yet, what are you waiting for?! This is one of the best healthier frozen dessert options in the freezer aisle of your grocery store! It’s the perfect treat year round, but especially when you’re craving something cold and creamy in the summer.
With over 20 different flavors, you can satisfy any craving. My family and I are huge fans, especially of the Fudge Brownie, Black Raspberry Chip and the new Orange Cream! Only 100 calories per bar but packed with 5 grams of protein.
Yasso Fudge Brownie Frozen Greek Yogurt Bars, 4-Pack: $3.98 at Walmart
2. Peach Flavored Cheerios
A fresh, juicy peach on a summer day… yum! Peach naturally flavored cereal… sounds good! A fresh peach sliced on top of a bowl of Peach Cheerios… Perfect!! It’s so good! My family and I devoured this box of cereal pretty quickly.
I don’t normally have cereal for breakfast, but I really enjoyed this the first week of summer vacation when I was just getting into “lazy” mode! I added a handful of almonds on the side for a little extra protein. Also great as an afternoon snack.
Peach Cheerios is limited, so get it while you can! Family Size: $3.64 at Walmart
3. Teavana Beach Bellini Flavored Herbal Tea
I’m always looking for a new flavor of decaf tea to enjoy. The packaging for this herbal tea really caught my eye. Beach Bellini… that just screams summer. I’ve yet to try it, but I’m thinking I’ll enjoy it warm, and also iced, as I relax on a summer evening.
The sachets smell so good! They’re filled with a mixture of pineapple, papaya, mango, tangerine peel and rose petals.
Teavana Beach Bellini Herbal Tea, 12 Sachets: $5.48 at Walmart
4. Ocean Spray Cranberry Pineapple 100% Juice
100% Cranberry Juice is pretty much a staple in our house. My kids enjoy a small glass with breakfast and I enjoy adding a splash to my green tea.
I’m sure you’ve heard of an Arnold Palmer… 1/2 iced tea and 1/2 lemonade. Well, I do the same thing at a little different proportion with cranberry juice. 3/4 green or black tea and 1/4 cranberry juice over ice, no added sugar. It’s actually called a Boston Iced Tea and it’s very refreshing!
This new Cranberry Pineapple flavor from Ocean Spray adds a tropical flair for summer! It’s great alone or mixed with tea!
Ocean Spray Cranberry Pineapple 100% Juice, 60 fl oz.: $3.28 at Walmart
5. Primal Kitchen Greek Vinaigrette & Marinade
Primal Kitchen has a line of products which are generally healthy, Whole 30 and Paleo approved. They do cost a bit more, but it’s worth it for a clean product that you can feel good about eating.
This Avocado Oil Greek Vinaigrette is new to Walmart and was a “gem” to find! It’s perfect to marinate chicken and then throw on the grill. Also perfect to top a Greek Salad (a favorite).
Primal Kitchen Greek Vinaigrette & Marinade with Avocado Oil, 8 fl oz.: $5.44 at Walmart
6. Birds Eye Steamfresh Roasted Red Potato Blend
I’m a huge fan of most of the microwaveable vegetables in the frozen aisle. They’re the perfect short-cut for getting a serving of veggies on the table! To stay healthy, I only buy products with “No Sauce Added”. Just add butter, oil or seasoning at home.
This Roasted Red Potato Blend with broccoli, corn, red bell pepper, carrots, and of course, red potato, is the perfect quick side dish to anything I may grill this summer (chicken, seafood, pork, steak, etc.).
Birds Eye Steamfresh Roasted Red Potato Blend, 10 oz: $1.97 at Walmart

7. Primal Kitchen Organic Unsweetened Ketchup
Another new item at Walmart, right next to the Greek Vinaigrette. Ketchup is a staple year round, but you may use it a little more over the summer to top those hot dogs and hamburgers! Unfortunately most ketchup brands contain a lot of sodium, sugar, and other unnecessary ingredients.
Primal Kitchen Ketchup has NO added sugar, has a short list of organic ingredients and just tastes good!
Primal Kitchen Organic Unsweetened Ketchup, 13 oz: $4.47 at Walmart
8. Chosen Foods Avocado Oil Spray
Avocado Oil is a staple in my kitchen. I love to use this handy, non-propellant spray for everything from making eggs to coating veggies, poultry and seafood. Chosen Foods is an excellent brand to pick up at Walmart. However, you’ll find the best deal on Avocado Oil Spray at Costco.
Chosen Foods 100% Pure Avocado Oil Spray, 4.7 oz: $4.48 at Walmart
9. Lenny & Larry’s The Complete Cookie
These “Protein” Cookies by Lenny & Larry’s are just fun! They’re a nice change from eating a protein bar. The list of ingredients is “okay”, but not perfect, so they’re an occasional snack.
The “6 Packs” of these Single Serving cookies at Walmart are a great find because usually these bars are sold individually as a 2 Serving cookie. That can be deceiving, because most people are going to eat the whole cookie… not save half for later. (Which means double the calories, etc.)
It’s hard to find the single serving cookies, but Walmart has them, so I stocked up! (Trader Joe’s used to sell individual single-size cookies, but now they seem to only sell the 2-serving size cookie.)
Lenny & Larry’s The Complete Cookie, 6 – 2oz cookies: $5.78 at Walmart
10. Seeds of Change Organic Sweet & Sour Simmer Sauce
I usually pick this product up at Target, but Walmart sells it too. It’s my favorite low sodium sauce to use when I make Sweet & Sour Chicken (a family favorite). I really love this product because it’s a one-time use. Therefore, I don’t have a bottle of sauce hanging out in my fridge for… ever!
Seeds of Change Organic Sweet & Sour Simmer Sauce, 8 oz: $2.97 at Walmart
11. Dave’s Killer Organic Raisin Bread
Dave’s Killer Bread has become my go-to bread of choice. I usually grab a loaf anytime I hit the store to keep on hand for sandwiches and toast. The Raisin Bread is sweet and satisfying!
Dave’s Killer Organic Raisin Bread, 18 oz, about 15 slices: $4.97 at Walmart
12. Sam’s Choice Swiss Dark Chocolate
Last but not least… Dark Chocolate! I first tried this Walmart brand of dark chocolate when I received it as a Christmas gift from my Mom. Now I pick it up every time I stop into Walmart. It’s very, very, very good (3 very’s)! Quality chocolate for a low price… stock up!
Sam’s Choice Swiss Dark Chocolate, 72% or 90%, 3.5 oz, 10 squares: $1.98 at Walmart
Must-Have Bonus Finds at Walmart
George Foreman Non-Stick Grill & Panini Cooker
I was not searching for this product when I walked into Walmart. However, there it was, and I had to have it!
A long time ago, pre-kids, I remember owning a George Foreman Grill. But, we dumped it once we purchased a “real” stainless steel outdoor grill. So, when I saw this at the store I thought…”this little panini style maker could come in handy, especially this summer when my kids are out of school”. My daughter likes to make herself a ham and cheese sandwich for lunch which she’ll warm up in the microwave to melt the cheese. Now she can use this to make a panini!
I’m looking forward to experimenting with it, especially as a panini press! For the low price, it seemed like a worthwhile purchase. No regrets!
George Foreman 2-Serving Grill & Panini: $14.98 at Walmart
*If you can’t make it into Walmart, you can also purchase the Classic Grill & Panini Press on Amazon. (affiliate link). It also comes in a 4-Serving size.
Galvanized Serving Tray
I’ve slowly been building up my collection of Galvanized Steel serving items. I love the look! Walmart has a pretty nice collection of galvanized steel products which are perfect for entertaining, everyday family meals, or even just for display in your home.
It’s always handy to have a tray to carry food and other items out to the lanai, backyard or poolside, especially in the summer!
Better Homes & Gardens Rectangular Galvanized Serving Tray: $8.98 at Walmart
